EPG Not Working on IPTV? Here's the Complete Fix Guide (Firestick, Apple TV & Android TV)

EPG issues are the #1 IPTV complaint in 2026. The blank TV guide, wrong schedule times, channels that show "No Information" — all of these come from the same handful of fixable configuration problems. Crucially: EPG is a separate data feed from your streams. Your channels can play perfectly while the guide is completely broken. This guide covers every fix, with exact steps for Firestick, Apple TV, and Android TV.

Understand the Problem First — Three Types of EPG Failure

Not all EPG failures are the same, and treating them the same wastes time. There are three distinct types, each with a different cause and a different fix path.

Blank EPG — nothing loads at all. The XMLTV URL is missing, broken, or returning a 404. Or the last scheduled refresh failed silently. Or the app cache is corrupted and blocking new data from being parsed.

Wrong times — guide shows but all times are shifted. This is a timezone misconfiguration, almost always. The EPG data is correct; the app is converting UTC timestamps to the wrong local time. It looks like a broken guide. It isn't.

Partial EPG — some channels blank, others work. A tvg-id mismatch between your M3U playlist and the XMLTV source. The affected channels don't have matching IDs — the app has no way to map their schedule data. The rest of your guide can be perfect.

## Fix 1 — Verify and Re-Enter Your EPG URL

The EPG URL is different from your M3U playlist URL and your Xtream Codes login. Confusing them is the most common setup error.

Varodatic provides the EPG URL in the welcome email — it's separate from your server URL, username, and password. It ends in .xml, .xml.gz, or .xmltv. The fastest test: copy the URL and paste it into a browser on your phone. If it downloads an XML or XML.GZ file, the URL works. A 404 means it's dead — contact support for a replacement.

TiviMate (Firestick / Android TV)

Go to Settings → Playlists → [your playlist] → EPG Sources and verify the URL is listed. If empty, paste your Varodatic EPG URL. If listed but broken, delete it and re-enter fresh.

IPTV Smarters Pro (Firestick / Android TV)

Navigate to [Profile] → Edit → EPG URL field and paste your Varodatic XMLTV URL. If using Xtream Codes login, go to Settings → EPG Settings → Auto and toggle it ON — Smarters fetches EPG from the server automatically.

GSE Smart IPTV (Apple TV / iOS)

Open Remote Playlists → [your playlist] → EPGURL field and copy-paste from your Varodatic portal. GSE silently fails if the URL has trailing spaces — paste, never type manually.

iPlayTV (Apple TV)

Go to Settings → [your playlist] → EPG URL. iPlayTV supports Xtream Codes (auto-EPG) and M3U (manual URL). If on M3U, enter the XMLTV URL manually.

⚠️ Browser test first. Paste your EPG URL into a phone browser before re-entering it in any app. If it returns a 404, no app setting will fix it — the URL is dead. contact Varodatic support for a replacement.

Fix 2 — Force a Manual EPG Refresh

Every IPTV app auto-updates EPG on a schedule. When that silent update fails, the guide goes stale. Force it manually.

TiviMate

  • Go to Settings → Playlists → [your playlist].

  • Check the "Last Updated" timestamp. If older than 24 hours, the auto-update failed.

  • Tap Update → Update EPG. Wait — large EPG files can take 3–8 minutes on a Firestick.

  • Set Update Period to 6 Hours to prevent silent failures recurring.
  • IPTV Smarters Pro

  • Tap the three-dot menu on the main screen.

  • Select Reload EPG or Refresh.

  • If on Xtream Codes: re-login — this triggers a full EPG reload automatically.
  • GSE Smart IPTV

  • Go to Remote Playlists.

  • Long-press your playlist name.

  • Select Update EPG.
  • iPlayTV (Apple TV)

  • Go to Settings → [your playlist].

  • Tap the refresh/sync icon next to EPG.
  • 💡 Compressed EPG loads 3–5× faster. If your Varodatic EPG URL ends in .xml, ask support if an .xml.gz endpoint is available. On a Firestick Lite, the difference between a 120 MB uncompressed file and a 25 MB compressed one is real — both in load time and RAM usage.

Fix 3 — Correct the Timezone Offset

If your guide loads but every show is at the wrong time, this is almost certainly a timezone problem. The data is fine. The conversion is wrong.

EPG XMLTV files store timestamps in UTC. Your app converts them to local time using either the device's system timezone or its own internal offset. If either is wrong, the entire guide shifts — typically by 1, 2, 5, or 8 hours. Fix the system time first, then the app offset.

Device-level fix (do this first on all devices):

  • Firestick: Settings → My Fire TV → Date & Time → Automatic Time Zone → ON

  • Apple TV: Settings → General → Date & Time → Set Automatically → ON

  • Android TV: Settings → Device Preferences → Date & Time → Automatic Time Zone → ON
  • App-level fix:

TiviMate: Go to Settings → EPG → Time Offset → set to 0. If still wrong after 0, try +1 or -1 in single-hour increments until the schedule matches what's actually on.

IPTV Smarters Pro: Go to Settings → Time Zone / Time Offset (search Settings for "timezone" if the path varies by your version). Set to your local timezone, not UTC.

iPlayTV (Apple TV): Go to Settings → [playlist] → EPG Time Shift → set to 0 and test.

💡 Quick check: if a show you know airs at 9 PM shows up at 1 AM, you're 4 hours off. Add +4 to your offset — or set your system timezone correctly and reset the app offset to 0.

Fix 4 — Clear the App Cache

A corrupted EPG cache blocks new data from loading even after a forced refresh. The app keeps trying to render the corrupted file.

On Firestick and Android TV, the IPTV app builds a local EPG database from the downloaded XMLTV file. If a download was interrupted or the file was malformed, the corrupted database stays in place and prevents new data from being parsed. Clearing the cache wipes it and forces a clean download on the next refresh.

Firestick: Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → [TiviMate / IPTV Smarters] → Clear Cache. Do not tap Clear Data — that removes credentials and settings. After clearing, reopen the app and trigger a manual refresh (Fix 2).

Android TV: Go to Settings → Apps → [your IPTV app] → Storage → Clear Cache. Same rule: cache only, not data.

Apple TV (GSE / iPlayTV / IPTVX): Apple TV doesn't expose a separate cache-clear option. Delete and reinstall the app. Playlist credentials re-sync via iCloud if iCloud sync was enabled.

ℹ️ Cache vs Data on Firestick: Cache is temporary files the app built during use. Data is your playlists, credentials, and favorites. Clear Cache is safe. Clear Data is a full reset. The EPG database lives in Cache.

Fix 5 — Fix Channel ID Mismatches (Partial EPG)

Partial EPG — where some channels show schedules and others show "No Information" — is a channel mapping problem, not a URL problem.

Every channel in your M3U playlist has a tvg-id tag. The EPG XMLTV file has a channel id tag. If those two values don't match exactly — same spelling, same case, same punctuation — that channel gets no guide data. The rest of your guide can be perfect. It's per-channel. The fix is either to correct the tvg-id in your playlist (ask Varodatic support) or manually map the channel inside TiviMate.

    Manual mapping in TiviMate

  • Long-press the channel with blank EPG.

  • Select Edit Channel.

  • Find EPG Channel — tap it and search for the channel name.

  • Select the matching entry from your EPG source.

  • Save — the guide populates immediately.
  • Manual mapping in IPTV Smarters

Smarters doesn't have a built-in channel editor. For persistent mismatches, contact Varodatic support and ask them to verify the tvg-id values in your playlist match the EPG source IDs.

💡 Sports channels have the highest mismatch rate — providers name them differently across regions. If sports EPG is blank but everything else works, this is the fix.

Fix 6 — EPG Not Working on Apple TV Specifically

Apple TV has tvOS-specific quirks that don't apply to Firestick or Android TV. If you're on Apple TV and the guide is blank despite the URL being correct, one of these is likely the cause.

iPlayTV — manual EPG URL required even with Xtream Codes

iPlayTV does not pull EPG automatically from an Xtream Codes server the way Smarters or TiviMate do. Even if you connect via Xtream, you must manually enter the EPG URL in playlist settings. Go to Settings → [your playlist] → EPG URL and enter the XMLTV URL manually. This surprises a lot of Apple TV users who expect it to behave like Smarters.

    GSE silent URL failure

GSE Smart IPTV on tvOS silently ignores EPG URLs that have trailing whitespace or an incorrect protocol. Copy-paste the URL from your Varodatic portal — never type it manually with a Siri Remote. One extra space after the URL breaks it with no error message.

Background App Refresh — required for auto-updates

On Apple TV, EPG auto-updates require Background App Refresh to be enabled. Go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh → ON for your IPTV app. Without it, the guide only updates when you manually open the app and trigger a refresh.

    iCloud sync advantage

GSE and IPTVX sync EPG configuration via iCloud. If EPG was working on your iPhone but not on Apple TV, check that iCloud sync is enabled in both apps — the configuration should carry over automatically without re-entering the URL.

Fix 7 — EPG Not Working on Android TV Specifically

Android TV has its own per-app quirks, particularly for apps outside the TiviMate and Smarters ecosystem.

OTT Navigator EPG path is non-obvious

The EPG source in OTT Navigator is at Settings → Providers → [your provider] → EPG Source, not in the general Settings menu. Most guides don't cover this location. Users spend five minutes looking in the wrong place and give up.

    XCIPTV EPG refresh is per-profile

If you have multiple profiles in XCIPTV, EPG is configured and refreshed separately for each. A refresh on Profile 1 doesn't update Profile 2's guide. Go into each profile's settings individually and trigger the refresh.

Large EPG on budget Android boxes

Nvidia Shield handles 150+ MB EPG files without issue. Budget Android TV boxes with 2 GB RAM and eMMC storage slow down visibly during EPG parsing. If loading the guide causes the interface to freeze, ask Varodatic support whether a compressed .xml.gz endpoint is available for your account.

    Android TV system time

Some Android TV boxes — particularly third-party boxes not running Google-certified Android TV — have broken NTP sync. Check Settings → Date & Time → Use network-provided time → ON. If that doesn't fix wrong times, manually set the NTP server to pool.ntp.org.

Fix 8 — When It's the Provider, Not Your Settings

If you've tried all seven fixes and the guide is still blank or broken, the problem is probably Varodatic's EPG server, not your app or device. Provider-side EPG outages happen — they're usually resolved within a few hours.

Two quick checks: test EPG on a different device and a different app. If it's blank everywhere with no common config issue, it's the server. Also log into your Varodatic portal and check whether the EPG URL listed there is the same one in your app. Providers sometimes update EPG server addresses without sending notifications.

If both checks point to server-side, contact Varodatic support directly — include which app, which device, and when the EPG last worked.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my IPTV EPG show "No Information" on every channel?
The most common cause is a missing or broken EPG URL. Open your IPTV app's EPG or playlist settings and confirm a valid XMLTV URL is entered. Test the URL in a browser — if it returns a 404 error, the URL has expired or changed. For Varodatic, the correct EPG URL is in your welcome email and customer portal. Copy-paste it fresh rather than reusing an old one.

Why does my IPTV guide show the wrong times?
That's a timezone mismatch. EPG data is stored in UTC inside the XMLTV file, and your app converts it to local time. Set your device timezone to Automatic in system settings, then reset the EPG Time Offset (or EPG Time Shift) to 0 inside your IPTV app. If times are still off by exactly 1 or 2 hours, adjust the offset in single-hour increments until the schedule matches.

Why do some channels have EPG but others say "No Information"?
That's a tvg-id mismatch. The channel's ID in your M3U playlist doesn't match any channel ID in the EPG source file. Fix it manually in TiviMate's channel editor (long-press channel → Edit → EPG Channel → search and map). For IPTV Smarters, contact Varodatic support to correct the tvg-id values directly.

How long does EPG take to load after a fresh setup?
Between 3 and 10 minutes for most setups, depending on file size and connection speed. EPG files range from a few MB to over 100 MB. Compressed .xml.gz files load 3–5× faster than uncompressed .xml. Keep the app open and on WiFi during first load — closing it mid-download corrupts the local EPG database, requiring a full cache clear.

My EPG was working, then suddenly stopped. What happened?
Three common causes: your provider updated their EPG server URL without notification (check your Varodatic portal for the current URL); the auto-refresh failed silently (check the "Last Updated" timestamp in TiviMate at Settings → Playlists → [playlist] → Last Updated and force a manual refresh); or a Fire OS update on Firestick reset app permissions affecting background refresh — re-enable Background App Refresh in system settings.

EPG failures almost always trace back to one of four things: a broken URL, a failed refresh, a timezone offset, or a channel ID mismatch. Start with Fix 1 (browser-test the URL) and Fix 2 (force a manual refresh) — those two alone resolve the majority of cases. The device-specific sections cover anything that remains. If the guide is still blank after all eight fixes, the issue is on the server side — reach out and we'll check it from our end.
